2020-2021 FHSS Graduate

Abby Jane Adams

Bachelor's in History

What is your favorite thing about BYU?

The normalized obsession with chocolate milk and the god-tier professors.

What was the best learning experience you had?

Two classroom experiences deeply defined and shaped my BYU experience: participating in BYU Slavery Project, and piloting the first semester of the LDS Political Engagement course. Both classes taught me the importance of grappling with difficult history in order to better understand our world today. They completely changed how I view history, religion, BYU, and the Church in all the best ways. If I could take only one thing away from BYU, it would be the lessons those classes taught me!

What/Who are you grateful for as you reflect on your college experience?

I am incredibly grateful for all of the professors in the History department. I'm sure everyone says this about their field of study at BYU, but I am convinced that the History department has the best professors on campus. Every single one of them was passionate about their subject and their students. I couldn't have asked for a better group of educators and mentors.

What's next for you?

My husband and I are moving to Kansas so he can pursue a PhD! In true History major fashion, I've already purchased books about Bleeding Kansas so I can drag him to all of the places with historical significance. Tour de John Brown starts summer 2021.
